For the past two weeks, I’ve worked with friend and colleague Todd Heywood to take an in-depth look at the ties Frazier Glenn Miller ā charged with murder for in the April 13 shootings at a suburban Kansas City Jewish center and retirement home ā has to a 1987 unsolved triple-murder in Shelby, N.C.
We went live with our initial in-depth report at Raw Story on April 18, with an additional update yesterday and a more locally-focused version in my newspaper’s April 25 print edition.
Local news outlets in Charlotte are hopping on the story, too. WBTV first tipped me off to statements from the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office that they were looking into the case again. WSOC also reported.
Other outlets are also reporting on different angles initially uncovered by Todd and me: ABC News, Slate, Kansas City Star and more.
It’s been interesting and rewarding, to say the least, covering this story, digging into the past, looking through old newspaper archives and clippings, working with Todd and Raw Story and watching the story play out.
And, it’s stories like this that remind me why I love doing what I do. Telling stories. Refocusing attention. Sharing lessons. Giving voice to tales and histories long forgotten.
